UPDATE (July 29, 2015) – Cinemax has made it official: Banshee cancelled after Season 4 – no Season 5.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo confirmed the cancellation of the Cinemax drama via statement:
“Banshee is a unique and compelling show that helped set high standards for original programming for Cinemax. The show’s exceptional blend of action and drama earned a vocal and passionate fan base that will not be disappointed in Banshee‘s final season.”
Co-creator/executive producer Jonathan Tropper added:
“Banshee has been an incredible ride, and we continue to break new ground in season four. While we certainly considered returning for a fifth season, I always said that when the story was told, it would be time to move on, and that time has come. I am grateful to Cinemax for making Banshee the great success it has been and for supporting our creative decision to wrap things up.”
Original story follows below…
Although unconfirmed by Cinemax, TVLine has learned exclusively that Banshee‘s upcoming eight-episode fourth season will be the show’s last.
I’m told producers have known for some time that that end was near, and, as a result, were able to craft an “epic” conclusion to the series.

RIP.

When I first saw the headline I was furious because the last season ended with a massive cliff-hanger, then I checked and realized that last season was season 3, not 4, meaning they will do one more season. As much as I love this show (it is one of the few good shows on TV), I can live with it wrapping up with one final season, so long as they tie up the loose ends.
This was definitely one of the most underrated “hidden gems” in television history. Thanks for four seasons of intense entertainment.

Never fails, all the shows that I watch get canceled. At least they are writing in an ending but that still doesn’t make me happy.
Banshee is the ONLY reason I pay for Cinemax and is being canceled.
Oh well Cinemax, when Banshee is over, i can save a few bucks a month and cancel my subscription to your service.

I am so disappointed to hear that another favorite program has been cancelled. I loved Banshee. All the actors were great. I’ve been waiting in anticipation for the new season to start. It’s too bad that all the good shows are cancelled and the crappy shows are renewed.

Another great and innovative show bites the dust. I don’t understand shows like The Bachelor stay on for 10+ seasons and Banshee gets canceled..Who watches that crap! Oh well, at least we get one more season.

one thing i’m tired of is this 8 to 10 show per year seasons. most shows in the past had a 20 to 30 show season, this nonsense of 8 shows leaves you the viewer with 44 weeks before next season.
By the time you get to the next season you have forgotten what the hell has gone on.
I will no longer watch 8-10 episode series.
